Fri 4 July | The Dorothy Squires Story Play & cabaret performed by Gerri Smith. Pianist: Ian Thomas
Play written by Mark Ryan & directed by Gareth Gibbs. One of the greatest singers of our time, Dorothy Squires began her glittering career at the age of 16 when she was hired to sing with Billy Reid’s band. Their subsequent partnership took them to the top and earned them a fortune. At the height of her fame, Dorothy met an unknown actor named Roger Moore, and put her own career on hold to help him make it in America. The play encompasses their tempestuous marriage and highly publicised divorce (she sued him for restitution of her conjugal rights – and won!), her electrifying performance at the London Palladium in 1970, and how she came to end her days poor and homeless. Like Dorothy Squires, Gerri Smith was born in Swansea. She is known internationally for her appearances as Vera Lynn and for her one-woman cabaret, Bird's Eye View. Her work as an actress includes television, film, radio and stage, and she is a director of the pre-eminent murder mystery company, Murder on the Menu.

Sun 6 July | Playing Burton Performed by Josh Richards with post-show talkback
Written by Mark Jenkins Directed by Guy Masterson One of the most powerful actors of the 20th century, rarely out of the papers for three decades and famously married to Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton appeared to waste his talent, squander his millions, and drink himself to an early death. But the real Burton, little Richie Jenkins, was known only to a few. Josh Richards reincarnates both actor and myth in a profoundly moving performance directed by Burton’s great-nephew, Guy Masterson. ’An exceptionally powerful and darkly haunting performance... It's faultless, riveting, brilliantly charismatic and peerlessly acted.’ The Scotsman .... ‘So bloody brilliant it's right off the scale!’ BBC Radio Scotland ... ‘An unforgettable distillation of the essence of Burton's uniqueness. A shattering portrayal!’ Daily Mail Trained at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Josh Richards has a huge range of TV, film and theatre credits, including the RSC, Theatr Clwyd, Northern Broadsides, Hull Truck Theatre Company, Almeida Theatre, etc. Mark Jenkins is one of Wales's leading writers of theatre and film. Playing Burton is the most successful new Welsh play of the last 25 years, with over a thousand performances on three continents.

Her talk provides a fascinating insight into the social whirl of those earlier times, weaving together interesting and entertaining snippets of information with wonderful items from that extraordinary collection, including Victorian mourning dress, Edwardian bloomers, Twenties Charleston dresses, Thirties ball gowns, tea dresses and cruise wear, Forties munitions overalls, Fifties glazed cotton shirtwaister, magnificent hats and once-fashionable accessories.
