Pop Goes the Century - from Victoria to Viagra, from Empire to E-mail, from Dolly Grey to the Dome - a hundred songs from a hundred years in a hundred minutes! This is ‘Beat the Clock’ with a difference, as The BakeliteBoys launch themselves on azany, whistle-stop tour of the most popular songs of the last century.
‘There is a magic on stage which draws the audience in to become part of the “creation”’ Lonnie Donegan
For many years Dave Sealey could be heard on TV and radio, in clubs, festivals and theatresas one half of Cosmotheka, the duo he formed with his late brother, Alan, to present music hall material in a contemporary way. He brings that legacy with him to The Bakelite Boys and also finds an outlet for the rock and blues style of his early singing career (Elton John was once his backing singer!). Dave has diversified into acting, and recently performed his acclaimed one-man show about Stanley Holloway, With a Little Bit o’Luck, at The Croft Hall in Hungerford.
Andrew Frank is ‘a refugee from high-brow choirs and West End musicals’. Over many years his voice and comic presence have been employed in children’s theatre, BBC’s Playschool, anything from 16 th century polyphony to 20 th century dissonance with the Schola Cantorum of Oxford, in Godspell and other Cameron Mackintosh productions, in community theatre and various collaborations with Cosmotheka.
A master of the jazz piano, Dave Brown provided the musical grounding for the legendary cabaret group, The Bouncing Czechs, and was musical director for many of the national tours of The Rocky Horror Show.

Prepare to be scared!
The Turn of the Screw
A ghost story by Henry James
Adapted and performed by Philippa Urquhart
This famous and controversial ghost story, first published in 1892, tells of a young governess who battles the forces of evil to save two children from destruction. At the time Oscar Wilde described it as ‘a most wonderful, lurid and poisonous little tale’. Tension mounts as the story builds to an unexpected and shocking climax.
Philippa Urquhart in the role of the governess brings this spine-chilling tale to life in a thrilling evening of mystery and suspense.
‘Terrific – both gripping and chilling. Philippa Urquhart has exactly the right qualities of raw emotion and febrile anxiety that the story needs…’
Nuffield Theatre, Southampton
Philippa Urquhart has worked for both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre, and has wide experience of regional and West End theatre. She has toured The Turn of the Screw internationally. Her TV credits include Tenko, EastEnders, Vanity Fair, Casualty and Soldier Soldier.
